A Spoonful of Sherman, the celebration of the work of Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman, will begin a tour of the UK in February.
Directed by Stewart Nicholls, who previously directed the cabaret version of the show in London in August, Robert J. Sherman’s tribute to his illustrious father and uncle will take to the road from 14 February 2018.
Billed as a special 100 year anniversary celebration of the double Oscar-winning songwriting partnership, the tour will star: Sophie-Louise Dann (2017 Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for The Girls); Glen Facey (The Wizard of Oz , Sheffield Crucible); Jenna Innes (nominated for Best Actress in a New Musical in Broadway World’s West End Awards 2016 for Animus); Mark Read (member of the boyband A1, Seasons of Love, West End); and Ben Stock (Grease, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) who is also the show’s musical director.
Created by third generation songwriter Robert J. Sherman (Love Birds, Bumblescratch) the musical tells the story of a musical family which began with his grandfather Tin Pan Alley writer Al Sherman who wrote songs for Al Jolson, Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday.
Widely regarded as the most successful songwriting partnership in the history of Hollywood, the Sherman Brothers have created more movie musical songs and acclaimed film scores than any other writing team.
From the Oscar-winning ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’ to ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ and ‘Feed the Birds’ in Mary Poppins to the unforgettable ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ which earned them their third of nine Oscar nominations, their songs have entertained the world for more than 60 years.
The tour which opens at the EM Forster Theatre in Tonbridge will visit Bournemouth, St Helens, Aberdeen, Inverness, Darlington, East Grinstead, Guildford, Windsor and London.
Further dates are to be confirmed.
